Following Drew's graduation on Friday we had
the rest of
the weekend free. Before the trip we had decided we would spend
Saturday exploring downtown Chicago. During our previous visit
to Great Lakes in 2001 for Mark's graduation we didn't make it
downtown. And, as it turned out this time around, Drew shipped out from
Great Lakes
headed to his 'A'
school in Mississippi in the early hours of Saturday morning, so he,
too, missed out once again.
We left our rental car at Great Lakes station and rode the MetraRail
train to the downtown Chicago Ogilvie terminus beside the Chicago
River then headed off on foot among the skyscrapers to explore...
The first thing we did after getting off the Metra was pick up a "
1-Day
Fun Pass" for unlimited travel on CTA buses and 'L' trains. Most of
the attractions listed above are some distance apart so,
as in any other major city, bridging the gaps using public transit is
the way to go in Chicago.
