The famous Yoshino cherry trees at the University of
Washington were originally planted at the Washington Arboretum on land
given up for construction of the Evergreen Point bridge. They were
moved to their present location in 1964 where they have bloomed at the
end of March into early April every year since. This short-lived
display brings hordes of visitors to the Liberal Arts Quad at the UW
main campus in Seattle. These trees are approaching the end of their
life span so there may not be many more years to enjoy this beautiful
signal of Spring's arrival.
